Biota of Canada Project

The Biological Survey of Canada has been documenting the arthropod fauna of Canada since 1979, and is interested in expanding coverage to include all living organisms in Canada. We seek partners to collate, summarize, analyze, and disseminate information on non-arthropod species. Please get in touch with the BSC Secretary at biologicalsurvey@gmail.com if you are interested in getting involved in this project.

The Biota of Canada: Terrestrial Arthropods

The BSC updated their seminal publication “Canada and Its Insect Fauna” (Danks 1979), with an all-new work: The Biota of Canada: Terrestrial Arthropods in early 2019. This open-access work featuring 32 chapters by Canada’s top biodiversity experts is available online at: https://zookeys.pensoft.net/issue/1251/

The Biota of Canada: Summary of living species in Canada

The Biota of Canada project summarizes the known number of living Canadian species by taxonomic group, as well as estimates of how many species are thought to live here undiscovered. Explore the data by clicking on a group, to drill deeper into the taxonomic heirarchy.
